Newton Pinnacle is a secluded alpine rock pinnacle, is perched high along a forested ridge above the Hood River Meadows parking lot (near Meadows Ski Area) just off Highway 35. The northwest face is approximately 60’ high, 150’ wide, slightly overhung, with perhaps 8-9 rock climbs (some TR's) ranging from 5.9 to 5.11-. This site has been frequented for various climbing activity as early as the 1950s.

Services: The nearest gas station is located in Government Camp, or drive north on Hwy 35 in Parkdale.
Amenities: Government Camp has a reasonable selection of grills, pubs, and restaurants to meet most persons needs. Hood River to the north would be the next nearest city with a diverse selection of quality entertainment.
Camping: The region has plenty of free roadside camping within 1-5 miles of the site. Low tech camping (pit toilet & firepit) at Sherwood CG, or Polallie CG are available 8 miles north on Hwy 35. The Trillium Lake campground is a very popular (often booked in advance), highly maintained camping site located about 9 miles west on Hwy 35.
Administrative Agency: Hood River Ranger District, 6780 Hwy 35, Parkdale, OR 97041, 503-352-6002. To park at Elk Meadows trailhead requires a NW Forest Pass. Its feasible to park near the Hood River Meadows entrance gate and walk in from there to reach the climbing site.
Seasonal Factors: Site elevation is 4,800'. Accessible after snowpack melts back, usually open from May-October.
Climbing Precautions: A few loose or hollow stones on top of the bluff, so use caution when setting up a route.
Road access conditions: Paved road to the parking site.
